Earliest meeting: Monday 14th August 1865
Final meeting: Monday 3rd June 1872
Ponders End was once a town in the county of Middlesex but has now been subsumed into the London Borough of Enfield. It is in the Lea Valley area of the capital and it is now more difficult to define its boundaries. In the latter part of the 19th century it held its own races, although for 6 years the meeting comprised of trotting races. The earliest record of a thoroughbred meeting was on Monday 14th August 1865 at Mr Jewison’s Pike and Anchor Race Ground. The Handicap race saw Mr Boswell’s Dark Girl defeat Gazelle and George, while the feature Silver Cup race was won by Morning Star. Meetings continued annually at the same venue for the next 5 years, while a further thoroughbred race meeting was staged on Monday 3rd June 1872.
